The Center for State Policy and Leadership, University of Illinois at Springfield seeks a Director of Center Publications/Executive Editor of Illinois Issues to lead a cutting edge public affairs magazine, based in the state capital, as it expands its multimedia presence. This person will work with a team of award-winning journalists and staff to give readers a strong understanding of Illinois politics and government.

This person oversees publishing and editing operations of Center Publications including monthly Illinois Issues magazine and Illinois Issues Online, books, annual reports, monographs and conference proceedings. Duties include supervising entire publications operation including editorial, production, marketing, fundraising and staff. This person makes final editorial decisions, in collaboration with the Center executive director, regarding projects Center Publications will undertake, makes final editorial determination on printed/electronic products, chairs Center Publications' Editorial Advisory Committee, consults with Illinois Issues advisory board members, especially regarding development and fundraising, is responsible for unit's budget, collaborates with the U of I Foundation on fundraising projects, works actively to seek external funding, serves as contact person with the Center and the University, reviews policy, writes reports, collaborates to implement the mission of the Center and the University and participates in special projects.

Minimum requirements for the position include: five years of actual journalism experience, five years of relevant supervisory experience, knowledge of public affairs, government and politics, fiscal and budgetary experience, and bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, or relevant discipline.

Master's degree and commitment to development of multimedia presentation of public policy issues preferred.

Anticipated starting date: December 3, 2007.

Salary range is $56,000 - $68,000, including excellent benefits package.
