OKs early retirement
Gov. George Ryan signed into law a bill that allows up to 20,000
state employees to retire early. The incentive plan is estimated
to save the state $65 million this year.

Philip sue to stop O'Hare plan
Illinois Senate President James Pate Philip and U.S.
Rep. Henry Hyde joined forces in a suit aimed at blocking the
planned $6.6 billion expansion of OHare International Airport.
The suit, filed in DuPage County, names Gov. George Ryan and Mayor
Richard Daley as defendants and charges the plan they brokered
is unconstitutional.
